According to a Harvard University study conducted for the American Medical Association, almost a quarter of America’s senior citizens are being prescribed drugs that have been determined to be hazardous to the health of older people.
One expert, quoted in the los Angeles Times, described it as ‘an epidemic of inappropriate, sub-optimal and excessive drug prescribing for older Americans because of doctors lack of knowledge about how drugs affect older people as well as the aggressive marketing practices of drug companies”.
