Animals in the wild are virtually free from periodontal disease, so why does domesticated cause our pets teeth from rotting? Dental decay is so common that it presents a major problem in the older cat and dog and the risk of anaesthetics for a clean mouth versus advancing periodontal disease becomes a serious issue.

Let’s look at pet dental decay. “More than 85 per cent of dogs and cats over the age of three years are suffering from periodontal disease to a degree that they would benefit form treatment”, so stated Drs P Emily and Susanna Penman, founding president of the British Veterinary Dental Association.
